212: All hail, Ascension Day!

(Tune: "Salve festa dies" Ralph Vaughan Williams. 7.9.7.7. with Refrain)

HYMN FOR ASCENSION - PART 1

All hail, Ascension Day!
The Thursday that’s now disregarded,
Calls just a few to church,
Kneeling in silent awe.

1. Gone are the days long ago
When such was a feast of obligation.
Streets filled with banners on high,
And hymns of glory sung.

All hail, Ascension Day!
The Thursday that’s now disregarded,
Calls just a few to church,
Kneeling in silent awe.

2. Try to get people to come
To mass outside a normal Sunday.
Pray or entreat or implore,
They simply stay away!

All hail, Ascension Day!
The Thursday that’s now disregarded,
Calls just a few to church,
Kneeling in silent awe.

HYMN FOR ASCENSION - PART 2

All hail, Ascension Day!
The Thursday that’s now disregarded,
Calls just a few to church,
Kneeling in silent awe.

3. High on the church's tall tower
The choristers all did assemble,
Singing their hymnody loud
Though none down below them could hear.

All hail, Ascension Day!
The Thursday that’s now disregarded,
Calls just a few to church,
Kneeling in silent awe.

4. Ending the forty days
Our risen Lord did walk among us,
People at work or at home
Mark yet another spring day.

All hail, Ascension Day!
The Thursday that’s now disregarded,
Calls just a few to church,
Kneeling in silent awe.
